HAPPY NEW YEAR

By holidays, local plumber, Phoenix Plumbing No Comments

I hope everyone has a Happy and safe New Year!

Here is a helpful tip to end 2014 and bring in 2015 in:
We don’t get freezing temps too often in Arizona, but it still does happen. With all this cold weather coming in its not only important to cover your plants, it’s also helpful to cover or insulate your exposed piping outside. That includes pool piping, lawn sprinkler piping and your service riser piping.

Stay warm and make 2015 an AWESOME year!

Replace your old shower head in a few easy steps.

By home repairs, Phoenix Plumbing, replace shower heads No Comments

Watch the shower Head replacement video to see how easy it is to replace your old shower head in a few easy steps.

Items needed:

  • New shower head
  • Teflon tape / plumbers tape
  1. Remove old shower head (If the old shower head is hard to remove by hand you can use a pair of channel locks. You will need to use caution, if you use too much torque/ power you could damage the shower arm in the wall.)
  2. Remove old pluming tape from threads (Teflon tape/ plumbers tape… It is not critical to remove every bit of tape. If you feel you need to you could lightly use a wire brush, you don’t want to mess up the threads in the process.)
  3. Apply new plumbing tape, one layer over the threads.
  4. Screw on new shower head, making sure you don’t cross threads. It only needs to be hand tight, do not use any tools to tighten down, you could damage the shower head and or the shower arm (pipe coming out of wall).

If you have any leaks remove the new shower head and make sure the gasket inside the head is sitting flat. When you screw the head back on you can use the existing tape but also make sure you do not cross thread.

If you continue having leaks after you have double checked everything, first try exchanging the head for a new one, there could be a defect in the shower head, and try again. If that does not cure the issue then call your local plumber, 480-966-8795 there could be an issue with the shower arm.

Our Customers Satisfaction is Our #1 Concern

By Phoenix Plumbing, reviews, warranty, water heaters No Comments

Just wanted to share how thrilled we are whenever our customer satisfaction is displayed with a nice note, email, or internet review. It is our desire that we please every single one of them and we go out of our way to give it our best effort. We are really grateful when they return the favor with a nice note or review.

We got this one in the mail this morning.

This customer called us stating he had water leaking from a pipe on his water heater. I sent my tech out to see what we needed to do to repair the heater. My tech discovered that he needed a new tank, I was able to verify that his water heater was still under warranty and the manufacture covered the new tank the customer was only responsible for labor. We filled out all the warranty paperwork and had a new tank installed that afternoon. Thank you Samuel for your kind words.

The prompt, excellent service in installation warrants a commendation from a very happy customer. You have an excellent staff of workers.

Dear Sir, Madam,

Just a pat on the back for a good job done.

I called your phone number and a woman got he call about 2:00pm. My water heater that I bought from you was leaking water. I gave her my address and my invoice number dated 3/10/09 with a 10 year warranty. The office lady told me that a tech rep would be to my house in Tempe in about an hour. The tech rep came, saw the problem and told me the heater would be replaced on it’s warranty. He returned shortly with a new water heater and replaced it in a short time.

I was charged for the service call and installation, got a new water heater in the process. I am very happy for the total experience.

Clearing Sewer Lines

By Phoenix Plumbing, plumber, sewer lines No Comments

Here is a SMART TIP from The Ultimate Guide to Plumbing by Merle Henkenius

Clearing the underground sewer line between your house and the street is NOT for most homeowners as it can be very tricky.

You want to be careful not to break the  cable from the auger off into the sewer service. You can do this by listening very carefully  to the motor, feeling and listening to the resistance of the cable so that you can sense the difference between tree roots, a broken pipe, piping offsets and the juncture of private sewer service and public sewer main.

Actually, you are probably best to call a professional.  We just happen to be professionals. Call City Wide Plumbing and Service Company at 480-966-8795 today!

IT’S TIME TO ADJUST YOUR WATERING SCHEDULE

By conserve water, Phoenix Plumbing, watering schedule No Comments

We receive a tip in the mail today from SRP and we thought we would share it with our customers.

IT’S TIME TO ADJUST YOUR WATERING SCHEDULE

water schedule change

As one of the Valley’s largest supplier of water, SRP reminds you that as the temperatures begin to fall, you’ll need to water your business’ landscaping less frequently.

Make sure you water thoroughly and deeply at each watering. This way, roots are logo-together-we-conserveencouraged to grow deep into the soil where they’ll be better protected from the cold winter months. Find out how much water is needed for your landscaping, check out other water resources at http://www.togetherweconserve.com.

You just filled up a swimming pool with your Wasted Water!

By conserve water, Phoenix Plumbing, save money No Comments

With talks of drought all around us, now is an important time to conserve water. We have talked before about tips to save water for normal daily use, but have you ever thought about how much water/money you could be wasting by not repairing a running toilet or a pesky dripping faucet.

For example:

Let’s say you have a water closet aka toilet running at a rate of ½ gallon per minute.
1440 minutes per day divided in half equals 720 gallons per day.
720 gallons time 30 days is 21,600 gallons per month wasted.
Most city’s charge per 1000 gallons so,
22 (thousand gallons) times $ 3.92 (per thousand) is $ 86.24 running down the drain.
In a year that could add up to $ 1,034.88 on top of your normal water usage.

The average cost to repair a water closet or a leaking faucet is less than $ 200.00. So not only do you conserve water you also save money. It’s a win win.

swimmingpools

An average swimming pool takes approximately 18,000-20,000 gallons of water to fill.

Homeowners Can Avoid Costly Sewer Repairs

By home repairs, Phoenix Plumbing, plumbing repairs, Service Line Protection Program (SLiPP), sewer, SLIPP No Comments

avoid-sewer-repairs-SLIPPAvoid costly water and sewer line repairs with Tempe’s Service Line Protection Program.

Many homeowners are unaware that they are responsible for both the main water line that runs from their home to the city’s water meter and the main sewer line that runs from their home to the city’s sewer main.

If these lines become clogged, collapse or otherwise fail to operate, the homeowner is responsible for any necessary repairs, which can cost thousands of dollars. The City of Tempe created the Service Line Protection Program (SLiPP) to help ease this financial burden for homeowners, and you may be eligible to enroll.

Did you lose your invoice for your water heater?

By home repairs, Phoenix Plumbing, save money, water heaters No Comments

Money Saving Tip:

Always hold on to your receipts  for installs of new appliances. Manufactures will normally go off the install date for the warranty vs the manufacture date.

For example, a company comes out and installs a new water heater. The water heater was manufactured 06/07/2008 but sat in the warehouse and was not installed until 12/15/2008. On 08/30/14 the water heater springs a leak and needs to be replaced. The customer is unable to locate the receipt of when the unit was originally installed, so the manufacture goes off the manufacture date and says the warranty is expired causing the customer to have to purchase a new unit. If the customer kept the invoice with the install date the manufacture would have warrantied the unit and the customer could have saved money by having the unit replaced under warranty vs have to purchase a  new unit.

Now do keep in mind that usually after one year, there is only a parts warranty and you will still have to pay for labor costs. It’s still much cheaper than having to buy a new unit and have installed. If you have any questions, please feel free to call City Wide Plumbing and Service Company at 480-966-8795.

My Water Stinks Like Rotten Eggs!

By hot water, Phoenix Plumbing, plumbing, rotten egg smell No Comments

Does your water smell in your pipes? Or did someone recently make rotten eggs?

Recently we had a call come in that has inspired this blog post. The customer has an issue where in her bathroom, the two sinks smell like rotten eggs when running the hot water. It doesn’t smell when running the cold water and it is only in the bathroom, not in the kitchen sink or other rooms.

Our plumbing technician, without being able to look at the problem at their location, surmises that it’s the magnesium anode going bad in the water heater. He’ll confirm that with a follow up visit.

Replacing your anode rod at regular intervals may increase the life of your water heater, saving you money, time and the inconvenience of having to replace your water heater.

Top 7 reasons to replace your anode rod:

  • Your hot water starts smelling like “rotten eggs”
  • You want your water heater to last a long time
  • It will cost you less to replace the anode rod than your water heater
  • Water softeners can accelerate anode rod corrosion
  • The water heater makes loud or multiple popping noises when heating up
  • Your water heater is more than 5 years old
  • Your faucet aerators seem to clog more frequently

Call your local City Wide Plumber at 480-966-8795 if you need help diagnosing your smells or you would like more information. Thank you!

You can help conserve water!

You can help conserve water!

Due to our recent dry winter some Arizona cities are running out of water. Arizona cities  are placing many water restrictions on their residents and have steep fines if they are not followed.

Safford Arizona has been aiming to reduce usage by 30%. Residents cannot refill swimming pools, plant new grass or install sod. Water out doors is limited to twice weekly and water at restaurant comes upon request only. In Williams the water drought has gotten so bad they have prohibited outdoor water and washing cars with potable (drinking) water. The city has also stopped issuing building permits for new development.

Residents using more than 15,000 gallons of water per month under the restriction could see a rise in their water bill by 150% to 200%. The penalty for using potable water outdoors for anything but public health or emergencies comes with  $ 100 surcharge that doubles for subsequent violations.

You can help conserve water.

Here are a few ways to help conserve water.

  1. Check for leaks in pipes, hoses faucets, toilets and couplings.
  2. Use a broom not a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.
  3. Don’t let the water run when you are cleaning vegetables, brushing your teeth or shaving.
  4. Use your dishwasher and clothes for full loads only.
  5. Do not use your toilet for an ashtray or a wastebasket.
  6. Install water-saving shower heads and low flow faucet aerators.
  7. Collect the cold water running from the faucet in a bowl or bucket while you are waiting for the hot water to use for cleaning or watering pants later.
  8. Consider installing a recirculation pump on your water heater so you don’t have to wait for hot water.
  9. Create water conservation awareness among your children, avoid the purchase of recreational water toys which require a constant stream of water.
  10. Use your water meter to check for under slab or underground leaks you may not be able to see. Make sure everything in the house that automatically runs water such as an ice maker is turned off. Then go out and check the meter, if the dial is spinning there is a good chance you have an underground leak. Call your local plumber and have them locate and fix the issue for you.
