Summer is coming up and so is vacation time. No one wants to come home from vacation to a plumbing disaster. Here are some simple tips to help protect your home from plumbing disasters while you are away.
Turn the water off to the house. If you need to keep it on to water vegetation you can either call a plumber and have them install a separate shut off or you can simply turn the valves off to the toilets, faucets, dish washer, ice-maker and water heater.
(use this check list.)
- To protect your toilets from staining from standing water you can pour a ½ cup of chlorine in to the bowl or have a friend come by and check on the house and periodically flush the toilets.
- If you’re going to be gone for an extended period of time you can either set your water heater on vacation mode or and can turn it off at the breaker.
